Pros for Verneshot Theory
effectively explains the occurrence of flood basalts and impacts together.
accounts for all phenomenon observed in an extinction event (crater, volcanism, climate changes, debris, gases, etc)
Cons for Verneshot Theory
no data to support theory, purely a theoretical model so far.
does not explain the Ir spike at the K/T boundary. Ir abundances are too low in the mantle to create the positive anomaly.
hard to distinguish between a Verneshot projectile crater and a meteorite impact crater.
largely only works for the K/T extinction. Does not support the other extinction events.
