Extinction

The extinction of the great marine reptiles occurred at the same time as did the extinction of their land counterparts, the dinosaurs; at the Cretaceous/Tertiary boundary. The tectonic opening and closing of land bridges which inevitably changed the oceanic climate is thought to also be a possible cause for extinction.
