Shortfaced Bear (Arctodus simus)

The Shortfaced bear is thought to have been taller and slimmer than the modern Kodiak bear, its remains have be recovered in both North and South America. The Shortfaced bear was the largest carnivore recovered at La Brea.

The closest ancestor to the Shortfaced bear is the Spectacled bear of South America.
