Dinosaur faunas of the late Cretaceous of North America were dominated by five major kinds of large dinosaurs. Other dinosaurs were present, but they were usually either much less abundant or much smaller. Among the dominant ones were the hadrosaur. The other four large dinosaurs were the ceratopsians (horned dinosaurs), heavily armoured ankylosaurids, the carnivorous tyrannosaurids and finally the ornithomimids, or ostrich dinosaurs.
