Biotopes

The Basin Center Biotope

Occurs in the deeper portions of the central lagoon. It is similar to the nearshore sandy and muddy biotopes, but bivalves are more important than Halimeda, and sea grasses are rare. Halimeda, and in some cases Penicillus, are the dominant algae.

In the basin center, the sediments contain debris of hard parts of lagoon organisms as well as small bivalves and Halimeda.
