Hydrothermal vent fossils have been discovered in various places around the world. These fossils show little evolution within the community over the course of time. The use of chemosynthesis to produce energy almost certainly predates photosynthesis and suggests that life evolved from hydrothermal vents instead of near the ocean surface as commonly thought.
