There are three types of flight: active, soaring and passive. Active flight consists of sustained powered flight. In the case for Pterosaurs it is achieved by actively flapping of their wings. Soaring can be considered to be a form of active flight; in that sustained flight is achieved by riding rising columns of air called thermals. And lastly, passive flight is not sustained flight, but could be referred to controlled falling. |
