The rise of mankind on Earth has marked a period of drastic global changes. Today we see the effects of population expansion in every corner of the globe. Local environments have changed, and now even the global environment seems to be changing, probably as an effect of increased greenhouse gas emissions. Though the effects of an expanding human presence are readily visible in the world today, many researchers ask: what possible effect could small populations of primitive peoples have had on their paleoenvironments?
