Hadrosaurs were thought to have been aquatic. Their tails were long
and deep which was believed to have been used primarily for swimming. Evidence that the digits
of the foreleg were webbed was naturally taken as further evidence of their aquatic nature.
However, since their webbed hands are so small compared with the rest of the body, it would
probably have been of little assistance in swimming.
In addition to this, a comparison to kangaroos showed that they too have fingers united by
a sheath of skin. Kangaroos use their front limbs to prop themselves when moving slowly or
when stopping to feed. There is evidence of trackways that hadrosaurs used their forelimbs in a
similar fashion.
