Deep water circulation into the Caribbean basin from the "Pacific" has been cut off due to volcanism and plate motion. The Barbados accretionary prism continues to develop, resulting in uplift of Barbados. The Puerto Rico trench is also evident at this stage and theYucatan basin has developed.
