Marjorie-Courtney Latimer and her Coelacanth

The Coelacanth was discovered on December 23rd, 1938 by accident by a museum curator named Marjorie-Courtney Latimer snd it was found dead on a fisherman's boat off the coast of Madagascar near the Comoros Islands (Coad, 1998). Miss Latimer had not been purposely looking for the fish, but while looking for fish to put on display in her museum, from the fisherman's catch, she noticed the peculiar looking fish and thought it may turn out to be something interesting (Jewett, 1998). It did indeed.
