Skull

Figure 12: The skull of Velociraptor mongoliensis (approximately 20 cm in length and 8 cm in width).

The skull of Velociraptor is elongated and has a large brain case relative to the size of the skull. The teeth were set in a light skull in which many of the bones were loosely joined to each other. The loose joints probably helped the skull compensate for shocks it encountered when the theropod grabbed and chewed its prey.
