Order Odontopleurida
The most recognized characteristic was the spines
on the cephalic brim, occipital ring, genial angle and along the
thorax. They were found from the
Ordovician to Devonian.
The pines were protective measures against predation. Pitcher (1998) suggested that the spine helped to distribute the weight on the surface of soft sediment of the sea floor prevented the trilobite from sinking.
