Necrolysis
Effects of decay on burial positions:
When carcasses dry out, shrinking mechanisms often bring about unnatural,
contorted positions not usually found in living animals. After rigor
mortis is lost, a carcass carried by flowing water to its place of burial
will show a passive position, rather than the rigid position of an animal
buried in a state of rigor or after desiccation on land.
This squirrel shows a slightly twisted shaped which may be caused by burial during rigor mortis.#FFFF00 |
