Marine Fossils

This organism was put right after the trace fossil section because it is both a marine and a trace fossil. This poor little guy, Mesolimulus walchi, Desmarest, must have been thrown into the lagoon by a storm or current. It wandered aimlessly for only a few moments before succumbing to the lack of oxygen and dying. The carapace is 92 mm, and the tracks begin a little to the left of the picture (modified from Barthel et. al., 1990).
