• Arose around 60 Ma
  • Extinct a few million years ago 
  • They reached lengths of  12 to 15 meters which is comparable to modern day sharks like the basking shark and the largest living fish, the whale shark; however, megalodon was a predator whereas the modern day giants are filter feeders 
  • Megalodon had teeth of up to 20 centimeters long and jaws 2 meters wide
  • Diet consisted of whales, dolphins, seals, large sharks and possibly marine crocodiles
