WHEN DID THEY LIVE?

The first true sauropods appeared in the early Jurassic about 200 M.Y.A., though they didn't begin to really diversify until the middle Jurassic(180 M.Y.A.). They reached their evolutionary peak in the late Jurassic and completely died out by the late Cretaceous. Sauropods spanned about 120 million years of geologic time, making them one of the longest lived dinosaurs in history. (Opposing image courtesy of the University of California Museum of Paleontology).
