Origins

When these characteristics are compared with those from other groups, several different results are generated. This is due to that the weights (or importance) of the characters are somewhat subjective and the person doing the analysis may weigh characteristics differently or different characteristics are compared.

While the results do vary it seems that dinosaurs and pterosaurs share a close ancestor and can be considered sister groups. The ancestor that they may have been derived from is either Lagosuchus (Mac/Win) (rabbit-crocodile), Scleromochlus (Mac/Win)or some other similar dinosaur-like reptile. They are all characterized by having large skulls and long slender legs.
