Competition

One of the Plesiosaursâ most feared enemy was the Mosasaur (another type of marine reptile). It is believed that Mosasaurs were so successful because they were able to move into the ecological niches left vacant by the extinction of the Ichthyosaurs (another type of marine reptile). Mosasaurs had evolved to be the dominant carnivores in many marine environments around the world, feeding on fish, squid, ammonites, and even other Mosasaurs. (Bakker, 1993)
