EARLY CRETACEOUS

At the end of the early Cretaceous, New Zealand started to seperate from Australia. By 110 million years ago, they were completely separated; they were both still attached to Antarctica. It is important that from the time that the New Zealand landmass was thrust up from the sea, it began eroding away at a relatively fast rate.
