Baby Dima

One of the most famous mammoth finds ever was the discovery in Siberia of a baby mammoth carcass which has been named Dima, after the small river near the site of discovery. The picture on the this page is of Dima, taken at the time of excavation.

Baby Dima serves as a good example of how an ancient animal carcass can come to be preserved over the millenia so that its soft tissues are easily recognizable.
