In what could be best described as a bone bed, a herd was overwhelmed in a sudden heavy fall of volcanic ash. The herd was composed of animals whose body length fell into either 3, 4, 5, or 7 meter category. An explanation for this phenomenon is that the animals reproduced once every year and that the young traveled with the colony. The size groups corresponded to age groups of 1, 2, 3, or 4 (and over) years. Maiasaurs would therefore have matured in 4 years and then ceased to grow.
