The Good Mother Lizard

The abundance of regurgitated vegetation provides additional evidence that the babies were cared for by their parents. Unlike the surrounding reddish sediments, the mud from which the nests were made is green. This obvious colour change is attributed to a change in the colour of iron rich minerals caused by the vegetation the parents carried to the nest. The discovery in Montana gave scientists the first evidence that dinosaurs were apparently caring parents, a most unreptilian trait.
