Insects:

The preservation of insects is quite a special occurence at La Brea. The insects were typically trapped while feeding on fecal matter or while feeding in the cavaties of the bones scattered on the ground. Once trapped the tar penetrated the fragile parts of the insect, to make them firm, and unbroken. Due to this process the insects recovered from La Brea are of such quality that they can be compared to insects which were preserved in amber.
