The Paleocene (65-56.5 mya)

The Paleocene epoch was a time of greenhouse conditions, with a warm subtropical climate and little seasonal variation (Prothero 1998, WGBH 2001).  Global conditions were warm enough that no ice existed at the poles (WGBH 2001). The dominant vegetation type was dense temperate to tropical forests, and included ferns, horsetails, pines, and palm trees (WGBH 2001).
