Since the spine began to grow in July, its diameter had reached 100 to 200m. It grew at a phenomenal rate of 10m per day! In November the spine had grown to 230m high in 20 days. The greatest height of 340m was reached in May, 1903. This extrusion was present in the crater until October 1905. The image below shows Mont Pelee after the collapse of the spine in 1905.
