Immature Queen Conch

Dimensions: Length 14.5 cm; Width 10 cm; Height 7.3 cm

Outer Lip Thickness: 0.2 cm

This conch was collected between the patch reefs, it was buried in the sediment, and was only found by chance. This specimen has undergone little to no deformation. It has retained its original markings and color. The overall appearance of the outer shell is a light brown-yellow color. This conch was dead for only a short period of time, before we discovered it.

When discovered this conch still displayed the bright glossy pink coating upon the inside of the shell. There are no red encrusting foraminifera but there is some algal matting beginning to accumulate upon the conical spire. This was the best specimen collected, which would approximate a living specimen.
