The Lagoon

The lagoon begins at about 30 m off-shore in about three meters of water. The dominant component of this area is sand size carbonate sediment. The main source of sediment in this area is the green algae halamedia and to a lesser extent Penicillus and Thalassia grass (turtle grass). The sediment itself shows the wave action with clearly visible symmetric ripples. An important feature that was noted is the dominance of thick thalassia grass between the beach and the lagoon.
