Barbados has a regular coastline with no deep indentations or offshore islands. The windward east coast is pounded by the open Atlantic and has several spots with dramatic cliffs and hidden bays, particularly at Bathsheba. The south and west coasts have calmer waters and host most of the island's resorts and hotels.

Rough surf pounds the Atlantic coast of Barbados. Note the bioeroded and wave-cut islet in the upper left of the picture.
