STRUCTURAL INTERPRETATIONS

The laws of Steno (1669) attest to the importance of stratigraphy as one of the founders of geology. Theories developped in the 17th Century still govern the geologists methodologies. The laws of superposition and of original horizontality, as well as original lateral continuity define the differences recorded in strata. Unconformities and cross cutting relationships define the situations which do not conform to Steno's laws.
