INTRODUCTION

Biostratigraphy is the science dedicated to correlating strata according to their relative ages as determined by their fossil content. This science bases its conclusions on data obtained through the examination and interpretation of the distribution of fossil succesions and assemblages in strata. This science manifests itself independently from lithology and facies concepts. As such, biostratigraphy represents a definitive means for correlating strata.
