WAVE-CUT TERRACES

Here at Devonshire Bay, modern wave-cut terraces can be observed. Notice the distinct shape, similar to that on the previous page. This terrace has not yet been infilled with marine sand and debris. Extensive wave cut-terraces are found within the Belmont Limestone.

A close-up of the infilled wave-cut terrace. These terraces are seaward dipping strata infilled with boulders, and coarse basal marine sediments grading upward into marine grainstone, then a ressive accretionary soil with land snails and then capped again with eolianite.
