Millepora alcicornis
Erect, Branching Coral.
Millepora alcicornis:
Fire Coral, or Stinging Coral. No skeletal cups; polyps
are not evident. The surface appears to be covered with pin holes. Large;
looks like somewhat like antlers; ochre to light brown or tan in colour,
with the tips of the branches are paler. A very common reef inhabitant.
Contact may cause a painful sting. This species is actually a hydrozoan
rather than a scleractinian coral.
