Paleoenvironment of the Protodonata

The environment of the Protodonata was very similar to the artistic rendition above. Swampy , marsh areas where the tree tops grew hundreds of feet above the ground. The time was of a warmer more tropical environment. The air was denser due to lesser amounts of oxygen then present day amounts. These swamp forests were very widespread, but there were "highlands". Or areas of dry, open land. Protodonata could be found in both areas. Just like modern members of the Odonata order.
